DR HO's BIOGRAPHY

Dr Ho Kheng Thye graduated from the National University of Singapore.

 

After attaining the post-graduate qualification of MRCP, he then trained in Cardiology at the National University Hospital (NUH).

Dr Ho went on to train in Nuclear Cardiology at the Mayo Clinic as an advanced fellow and is US Board-Certified in Nuclear Cardiology.  After returning to Singapore, he established and was Director of the Nuclear Cardiology Service at NUH and TTSH.

 

In 2005, Dr Ho was the first Cardiologist sent by the Ministry of Health for training in Cardiac CT. He was mentored by Prof Stephan Achenbach at the University of Erlangen, and was subsequently the first Singaporean to be US Board-Certified in Cardiac CT (2008) during the inaugural CT Boards exam. 

 

Dr Ho was invited to be Head, Department of Cardiology, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), a position which he served from 2005 to 2009. 

 

During this period, he spear-headed and established the 24-7 Emergency Primary Angioplasty Service for the treatment of patients with heart attacks. Dr Ho facilitated the training and logistics of a team of cardiologists, nurses and para-medical staff in establishing this as the standard of care for all patients with heart attacks at TTSH.

 

After 21 years of service in the public sector, Dr Ho set up his own private cardiology practice at Mount Alvernia Hospital in 2010. 

 

In his years of service in the public sector, Dr Ho has contributed in many capacities - senior consultant cardiologist, university academic, researcher, administrator and medical leadership in local and international committees. In the private sector, Dr Ho has also been Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board, Mount Alvernia Hospital.

Professional Contributions

 

Chairman of the Writing Committee on MOH-AM Guidelines on Cardiac CT in Singapore (2006)

 

Director of four successful professional courses on Cardiac CT for physicians (2007 - 2012).

 

Director, LIVE program for the National Healthcare Group (2005-2010). 

This is the largest disease management program in Singapore, and has cared for a total of more than 10,000 cardiology patients since 2005. The aim of LIVE was to control cholesterol and blood pressure  levels in patients with coronary artery disease. It has been due to the efforts of the program the LDL-cholesterol and blood pressure goal attainment in NHG increased from less than 30% in 2000-2002 to more than 85% in 2005-2010. This has had large public health importance in reducing death rates and repeat heart attack rates in patients heart disease, and grew out of Dr Ho's professional interest in Cardiac Rehabilitation. The findings have been presented and validated at numerous international meetings (AHA Quality of Care & Clinical Outcomes Conference 2005 and 2009, European Society of Cardiology Annual Scientific Meeting 2009).

 

Elected as a Fellow of the US-based Society of Cardiac CT (FSCCT). He has also been a member on the Guidelines Committee, the International Committee and the Education Committee of the SCCT.

Dr Ho is regularly invited as a speaker, moderator and chairperson at major Local and International Cardiology Conferences. He is recognised as a Key Opinion Leader in Singapore and the region on account of his research and clinical experience.
